Should you rebuild your website, or just maintain the one you have?

If you ask an agency whether you need a new website, most will say yes, because a rebuild is the larger project. So here is the version without that bias. Sometimes the right answer really is a rebuild. Often it is not, and a maintained, tuned version of what you already have will serve you better for less.

Keep and maintain it if…

• It loads reasonably fast and works on a phone
• The structure and content still match what your business does
• It is on a platform a developer can actually work with (not a locked builder)
• The problems are upkeep problems — a broken form, an expired certificate, tired content
• You are getting enquiries; you just want more, and steadier

If that is you, a rebuild is money spent replacing something that mostly works. What you actually need is someone maintaining and improving it — the boring monthly work that compounds. Taking a sound site onto a maintenance contract is usually the cheaper and faster path, and an honest provider will tell you so.

Rebuild it if…

• It does not work on a phone, and most of your visitors are on phones
• It is on a platform nobody can edit without breaking it
• The business has changed and the site describes a company you no longer are
• It is genuinely slow at the server level, not just heavy with images
• It looks a decade old, and that is costing you trust with the customers you want

Any one of these can justify a rebuild on its own. Two or more and it is usually the right call — you are not polishing, you are replacing something that is actively working against you.

The honest test

Ask one question: is the site losing you customers, or just failing to win you new ones? A site that actively drives people away — broken on mobile, slow, untrustworthy — needs replacing. A site that is simply not growing needs maintaining and tuning. They are different problems with very different price tags, and conflating them is how people get sold rebuilds they did not need.
